Gold Coast Titans Rugby League club (Titans) engaged Crowd Convergence as their match day social media partner for the 2014 NRL season. The growing social fan base can now participate in exclusive in-stadia experiences and see their Tweets and selfies live on the stadium big screen Titans Twitter Wall. The Titans are leaders in the NRL game day social space and we’re proud to facilitate this success.
The Titans were seeking a simple and self contained social engagement solution compatible with their current game day processes and technology. Specifically the aim was to promote an exclusive in-stadia experience and grow the number of followers across their social network accounts. Sponsor branding and an easy to use system were critical considerations to ensure any staff member could operate the platform with little training.
Crowd Convergence successfully designed and delivered a complete match day solution that socially encouraged and engaged fans of the Gold Coast Titans. All necessary hardware was provided to the Titans event team so they could self-manage game-day operations. Crowd Convergence worked with the in-stadia technical providers to ensure this equipment was suitable and compatible with their systems. Custom designs were created to incorporate Titans and sponsor branding while using a minimum screen real-estate. Completed designs were provided during pre-season testing and subsequently adjusted to suit venue big screens and sponsor requirements before live use. Further, detailed instructions and training were provided to Titans staff so they could hit the ground running at the first home game.
Across the season, the Titans game-day social post volume increased dramatically. Tweets to #gctitans grew by over 3000% in just a few weeks. Fan engagement was clearly evident across Twitter and Instagram with the Titans receiving thousands of tweets and photos throughout the season. Early social success encouraged the Titans to integrate a Photo Wall into their social activations. Fans were encouraged fans to post selfies to appear on the big screen – and they loved it!
The Titans were able to successfully leverage their social media, engage fans and incorporate sponsor commitments. The Twitter Wall and Photo Wall allowed more opportunities for commercial coverage which in turn, generated greater return for the club. The Titans social engagement solution exceeded expectations and Crowd Convergence are proud to have been an integral part in achieving their event engagement goals.
